Artwork and Antiques
Art in hotels is a historical constant.
When in the 19th century hotels began to occupy the market of the taverns, hoteliers not only hosted their guests, but also created a high standard environment, decorating walls and lounges with art and antique furniture. However, since they could not afford the originals, it was customary to have important works copied from museums. Sometimes it was also possible to obtain a painting from a painter who was not too expensive; in this way many important masterpieces ended up in Swiss hotels rather by chance.
