The building at Via Nassa 68, before the transformation
From Family Residence to Hotel – via the Apostolic Administration
The oldest documents preserved in our archive date back to 19 June 1886 and concern the land and the three‑storey building on which the hotel stands today. On that date, Monsignor Eugène Lachat, Archbishop of Damiata and Apostolic Administrator of the Canton of Ticino, purchased from Caroline Riva, widow Poncini née Soldini, a property consisting of a house, garden and annexes for 85,000 francs.
Between 1886 and 1905, the plots that today host the staircase, the funicular and the hotel changed hands several times. Finally, on 9 September 1905, Carlo Martinetti sold the area destined for the future hotel to Anton Disler and his business partner for 290,000 francs.
