Triptych of room renovations
Investing in the future, preserving the past
With a total investment of 8 million Swiss francs, we carried out in stages the renovation of the rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors in 2013, the 3rd and 4th floors in 2019, and the courtyard-facing rooms from the 2nd to the 4th floor in 2024.
We stand out by enhancing the historical charm of the building; the rooms preserve a continuous thread of authenticity, intertwined with modern living solutions. Every element is carefully designed, evaluated for comfort, aesthetics, and functionality, to offer an experience that blends elegance with contemporary living.
Completing renovation projects within the planned time frame is a source of pride and gratitude for us towards the local craftsmen and companies with whom we have collaborated for decades – if not for generations.
Building the new while preserving history
Renovating hotel rooms means saying goodbye to a space, a style, a colour palette, and then – after moving tons of material – creating a new environment capable of telling a contemporary story within a century-old building.
When we open ceilings or demolish walls, traces of the hotel’s past emerge: old plasters, remnants of decoration, and signs of those who once brought this place to life. And before closing everything again, we too leave our signature – a small mark of our presence in the history of the International au Lac.
In the images besides, the testimony of construction work carried out by Giulio Schmid (3rd generation) resurfaces. After 43 years, it becomes visible again thanks to a new renovation project led by Roberto Schmid, while the structural steel beam now bears the signatures of the 4th and 5th generation.
