Underground garage in the heart of the historic centre
Courage and foresight:
the creation of the hotel’s underground garage
In the late 1980s, Giulio Schmid, representative of the third generation of owners, conceived a new underground garage, prompted by the expansion of the pedestrian zone in front of the hotel. Between 1990 and 1993, an ambitious multi-million project took shape: the reconstruction of the historic dining room above a two-level underground garage with 36 parking spaces.
The access ramp crosses the former reception, laundry and kitchen areas and leads to the garage carved out of the rock beneath the garden. The enormous excavation of 22,000 m³ of rock increased construction costs to four times the usual level, but it also made it possible to add an outdoor swimming pool in the garden as a quiet oasis in the heart of the city.
In 2023, the garage was further equipped with charging stations for electric cars and e-bikes.
