Entrance Hall and Reception
The reception evolves with changing travel habits
The hotel’s entrance hall has undergone numerous transformations over time, shaped by evolving travel habits and by new ways of interacting with guests. In the photographs shown here, one can see how the lobby appeared before 1957: a welcoming area without a real reception desk. Registration and payment procedures were infrequent, as guests stayed for several weeks.
With the improvement of railway connections and, later on, with the rise of individual mobility, the average length of stay gradually decreased. It therefore became necessary to introduce a proper reception desk, capable of offering efficient service both upon arrival and upon departure.
At the beginning of the 2000s, when the average stay had fallen to around 1.9 nights, a further expansion of the lobby and reception area was required in order to adapt the spaces to the new way of travelling and welcoming guests.
