Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer

"Girl with a Pearl Earring" is an oil painting on canvas (44.5×39 cm) by Johannes Vermeer (*1632 - †1675), datable to about 1665-1666 and preserved in the Mauritshuis of The Hague (Netherlands).

Hoteliers of the 19th century, including the great-grandparents and grandparents of the current owners of the Hotel International au Lac, decorated the walls and rooms with art and antique furniture to create a high-level ambience in their hotel lobbies. However, since they could not afford the originals, it was customary to have important works copied from museums or to obtain artwork at auctions.

The antique copy of " Girl with a Pearl Earring ", which was in the International au Lac lobby until the 1980s, was moved to the executive office following a theft attempt that damaged the piece (now restored).
